Is Cheap Travelling in Europe Really Viable?
We’ve put together this page so you can find exactly what you’re looking for through the countries we’ve yet visited on the continent. Where are you heading to next?
Malta
Cheap travelling in Europe from Malta: That was our motto for over 2 years. We actually come from the smaller island Gozo, home to around 40,000 people. Being such a small and preserved island, it offers a real community vibe.
England
London has been the very first city we visited back in September 2017. We’ve been saving for almost a year for this trip and planned it just like any holidaymaker would plan it. We were a long way from budget backpackers back then!
Poland
Poland is a country that should top the bucket list of any budget traveller. Cheap food, beer and attractions are everywhere you look. The country is home to our favourite winter destination, a small town we’d go over and over… and over again!
Denmark
When someone visits Denmark, most probably Copenhagen would be the main attraction on the list. In our case, we travelled to Denmark specifically to visit a small town up north called Aars. Why? Italobrothers were in the house!
Netherlands
Amsterdam is one naughty city! It was BUZZING, but exploring just the capital would not do the country justice. Alkmaar, Haarlem and Texel are amongst the prettiest and we feel so lucky we had to chance to explore them all!
Bulgaria
Bulgaria is the definition of cheap travelling in Europe – and that was the initial reason why we decided to visit! The food and scenery are just amazing and exploring the small Bulgarian villages is an experience on its own!
Italy
Being born and raised in Malta, Italy is one of the very first countries we were taught about back in school. This is certainly because of the influence on our language, culture and cuisine. We have so much in common. It’s a pity we can barely count to 10 in Italian!
Hungary
Nothing beats a low-budget family trip! It’s the time we get to practise our tour leading skills – who knows what might come in handy? The highlight was undoubtedly the Szechenyi Bath, which is one of the biggest thermal baths in Europe.
Germany
It’s been an amazing three days in Germany. Deciding to go rather last-minute, we really didn’t have much time to plan. We stepped out of our comfort zone in trying Couchsurfing for the first time, and it turned out to be one awesome experience!
Gibraltar
Gibraltar and budget are not mentioned too many times in the same sentence. The Peninsula is an overseas British Colony and unfortunately for budget travellers, prices someway mirror those in the UK.
Do you think we can do it on a budget?
Spain
WE LOVE SPAIN! We just can’t get enough of it actually. If you’re into food (who isn’t?) you’ve got Tapas to keep you occupied all day, every day! We’ve hit Barcelona, Seville, Santiago de Compostela and Malaga.
Could the capital Madrid be up next?
Cyprus
The Republic of Cyprus has been the country that mostly resembles home, in many ways! They drive on the left-hand side of the road, the cuisine is very similar and differentiating between a Cypriot and a Maltese in terms of appearance would be nearly impossible!
Slovakia
We had an unforgettable adventure in Slovakia. Not the most comfortable by any means, with two of the nights spent in a car just to save a few Euro on accommodation. HOWEVER, we had the opportunity to spend a night in the clouds. How often does that happen?
Greece
Who would have told us that we would start our full-time travel journey in Greece? The plan changed like three times in a few days, however we couldn’t be any more glad to start in a country where the modern mind comes head to head with ancient history.
Austria
Austria has been too good to us. We experienced the luxurious lifestyle in the city, had a surprise from Charlotte’s father and spent over three weeks with an amazing local family whom we now proudly call as friends. Gosh, we’re really gonna miss this!
Czech Republic
We loved the Czech Republic. It’s true – we didn’t visit during the easiest of times. Due to the pandemic, bars restaurants and basically most of establishments closed down. On the bright side, we had the most popular sights in Prague all to ourselves!
